Upcoming MUSIC IN LOS ALTOS concert at Los Altos Lutheran Church
THE ALBANY CONSORT continues its 2023-2024 concert series with a celebration of spring on Friday, May 17th.
Los Altos Lutheran organist Lynda Alexander and Consort harpsichordist Jonathan Salzedo started Music In Los Altos back in 2016. The series went virtual at the beginning the pandemic in 2020 and opened doors again in 2022. Check the web page www.MusicInLosAltos.com for details of the upcoming concert, as well as the fliers of many of the concerts that the series has hosted in its eight years of operation.
For our May concert, Jonathan and his wife Marion Rubinstein provide the instrumental accompaniment on organ and recorder for two fabulous singers Rita Lilly and Charles Humphries, who will delight the senses with songs by Henry Purcell and his contemporary John Blow. The program is rounded out with instrumental solos, including the rousing Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, artfully arranged as an organ duet that really only works for two players who don’t mind the occasional overlapping or crossing hands.
The concert is a preview of the group’s upcoming tour in Virginia. Jonathan and Marion play a small but mighty portable organ that fits into a suitcase for travel, and you will get to see the launching of this amazing sounding small but powerful instrument.
Refreshment are served before, during and after the concert. You can refresh, walk about, even step out onto the veranda during the event. No unnecessary formality at MILA events. Just show up, or buy tickets in advance via the web site. Reduced rates ($25) for church members. An event not to miss.
